SIMULATION OF VEHICLE QUEUEING ON PEAK HOUR AS THE IMPACT OF PELICAN CROSSWALK USING POISSON PROCESS

Abstract

Pelican Crosswalk is a pedestrian facility that use traffic lamp to manage pedestrian flow and traffic. The effect of pelican crosswalk is queueing car when pedestrians cross the road. There are factors that influence queueing on pelican: inter green time, and length of red. To gain the impact of pelican crosswalk on the queueing vehicle, it can be simulated by using Poisson Process. The simulated factors are the arrival of the car and inter green. The result of simulation on Dr Moestopo Street Surabaya with the distance from pelican crosswalk to intersection 155 meters shows that the length of queueing is 8 vehicles or 48 meters for each lane. With this condition, the location of pelican should be 348 meters from near intersection to fulfil the minimum requirement of pelican crosswalk location or using pedestrian bridge.
